So far I’ve run into no complications and this thing runs like a charm. Personally I’d recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a good all around laptop. Runs the few videos games I’ve tried on it like a champ, and yet can still pull up iTunes in ten seconds flat as well as run pretty much any program I’ve thrown at it. In terms of temperature this thing remains very cool. Unless you’re running some high-power games you should be able to keep this thing on your lap during long flights (as I intend to do).
Video game wise: Well I’ve thus far only have tried Minecraft and Civilization V on it both of which can run at the highest possible settings and still run without a hitch. I’d like to give Starcraft 2 ago some time in a few weeks. The 5650 video card runs very well.
The few issues I have had with it are primarily aimed at its design. It has an actual disc tray that seems like it could possibly break if too much force was applied to it. The power cord plugs into the right side of the laptop, while a good thing in some situations I like mine on the back. Secondly, the headphone jack is on the left side, I prefer mine on the front so as to face in my direction. Very minor annoyances.
Overall I’d suggest this laptop to anyone considering to fork over $800ish dollars for a fine all around laptop.

-Nice looking screen
-Lightweight and super-thin
-Doesn’t heat up much
-Minimal bloatware (I actually found some programs useful)
-Design is simple, yet cool
-Love the multi-gesture touchpad
-4 usb slots
-Acer update automatically downloads and updates your drivers on first bootCons:
-Some of the ports are awkwardly placed in my opinion (check the side-view pictures)
-Fingerprint magnet
-Keyboard is just ok, not too great (It is NOT chiclet and NOT backlit)
-VERY flimsy/wobbly CD drive, but who uses CDs these days?
-Switchable graphics is great for battery life, but causes random screen-flashing and is not smooth. I now have to go into BIOS to switch graphics cards.
-If you are a bass-lover, the bass on the speakers is very weak, but I have no problems with the sound qualityI’m having no trouble with the wi-fi, which some people complained about. As a college student, I am loving this laptop for its excellent portability and its ability to handle graphics-intensive games.
Gaming:
-Heroes of Newerth on max settings is very smooth and does not heat up
-Civ5 is smooth on max settings and moderately heats up after 3+ hours
-Starcraft II should run smoothly on high settings
-Dragon Age (maxed settings) on 1680×1050 causes considerable heating after about 90 minutes, which greatly reduces fps. Running on lower resolutions keeps it smooth though
-Mass Effect 2 is running perfectly at default settings, haven’t tested higher settings yet

One of the finest notebooks I have ever seen, used or owned,
I must have owned 50 laptop/notebook computers over the years, maybe more. I’m a middle aged tech executive, and I travel a heck of a lot. On planes half my waking hours, and there’s just so much “work” I can do, movies to watch, and books to read. I’ve been a hardcore PC gamer for years, and have been looking for the perfect traveling gaming laptop forever, and I think I may have finally found it. I play games on planes, in hotel rooms, and in airport lounges. It helps pass the time when my brain is just fried from jet lag, work braindrain, or just sheer exhaustion.
I’ve tried everything from Alienware, heavily customized Toshiba laptops (up till now my general favorites) Lenovo Ideapads and plenty of others, anything to get a decent graphics adapter. But the Acer Timeline X 4820TG just rocks. The Core i5 has enough CPU juice for anything thrown at it, and the Radeon 5650 is just awesome…. It plays nearly everything at full blast and full resolution.
The switchable graphics are bit flaky sometimes, but thats mostly a software problem that seems to be getting better with each driver release, and the battery life with the Intel GPU turned on is really around 7 hours when using the Acer “Eco” utility. I like it
The weight is awesome, as is the thin-ness of the whole package. I actually really like the chicklet keyboard as it has great action. The design is simple, clean and practical. The touchpad is just great, with little or no mystery movements. And the screen is beautiful and colorful.
As far as quirks, which all machines have, my only real issue is that there are no “hard button” volume controls, just “function key” based ones, rather than a traditional mute button or volume wheel. Also, the switchable graphics get braindead when trying to connect it to an external projector to make a presentation, so it takes some juggling to get it to work. Works perfectly fine with the ATI graphics loaded, but won’t work for anything when the Intel adapter is running. Again, probably just software silliness.
All in all, just a wonderful value and experience having this machine. I had some pretty bad laptop experiences with Acer before, but this one just rocks.
